Soccer legend Lionel Messi is boosting the popularity of the sport, not just in Miami, but across the United States. His recent acquisition of a $10.75 million estate in Fort Lauderdale has captured the curiosity of people worldwide. When the 36-year-old forward joined Inter Miami CF this summer, following his World Cup triumph in Qatar last year, “Messi Mania” swept through Miami.

Enthusiastic fans, both long-time and newcomers, flocked to buy tickets and merchandise. While the real estate market may not experience the same frenzy, it is certainly not immune to the excitement, according to industry experts. Since the news broke about Messi house-hunting in Fort Lauderdale and ultimately purchasing a home in Bay Colony, the spotlight has been firmly on the area.

Bay Colony comprises approximately 100 waterfront mansions, drawing in boating enthusiasts and individuals seeking top-tier security, given its constant 24-hour guard presence, as per Carroll. Zillow reports that the typical home price in this vicinity stands at $4.6 million.

The spotlight that Messi and his wife, model Antonela  Roccuzzo, have cast on the area with their purchase of the nearly 10,500-square-foot mansion has the potential to generate increased interest in the community and set a new standard for future property sales was stated by Samuel and Donna Simpkin from Compass’s Team Simpkin, who acted as the exclusive real estate agents for both Messi and Roccuzzo, and also represent Inter Miami CF.

However, some experts point out that although a high-profile buyer can draw attention to the region, it’s unlikely to significantly impact property prices, as mentioned by Ron Shuffield, the president and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway.   He explained that buyers won’t necessarily pay an extra million dollars just because they have a celebrity neighbour. It’s more about the collective appeal of the neighbourhood, and having a celebrity nearby certainly adds to the allure.  Moreover, Shuffield highlighted the broader popularity of the Fort Lauderdale region, extending beyond Bay Colony EWM Realty.

While Miami will forever remain the prominent representation of South Florida on the world stage, our neighbouring cities, spanning from the southernmost Key West to the northern limits of Palm Beach County, have consistently expanded their attractiveness. While Miami will always be the recognized face of South Florida on the global stage, our neighbouring cities, extending from Key West in the south to Palm Beach County in the north, have continually gained popularity with the public was explained by him.

Fort Lauderdale serves as a notable example of this trend. The city’s leadership has been proactive in transforming Fort Lauderdale from its long-standing perception as a spring break destination into a thriving economic hub and a highly desirable location for permanent residents.
