Aggrieved homebuyers of the Kharavela Enclave housing project by the Odisha State Housing Board (OSHB) staged a protest outside the OSHB office, demanding the immediate handover of the purchased residences. Despite full payment for their flats, the buyers have faced years of delay in possession, extending far beyond the original completion timeline. Around 100 allottees participated in the demonstration, expressing frustration over the lack of resolution despite attempts to engage with the housing board and even lodging a formal complaint with the Chief Minister. The situation highlights the importance of timely execution in real estate projects to prevent such issues in the future.
In a fervent display of frustration, the aggrieved homebuyers of Kharavela Enclave, an upscale housing project by the Odisha State Housing Board (OSHB) in the coveted Khandagiri locality, staged a protest outside the OSHB office at Unit IV. Their demand was simple: an immediate handover of the residences they had purchased.
Despite having fulfilled their financial obligations by remitting the full stipulated amount for their flats to the housing board, the homebuyers lamented the protracted delay in obtaining possession of their units. Their ordeal has stretched well beyond the original deadline, which lapsed several years ago. The demonstration witnessed the participation of approximately 100 allottees who gathered in front of the board's office to voice their frustrations.
Commenced in 2011, the project was initially slated for completion within a span of three years. This timeline was aligned with the project's inception and the subsequent initiation of flat bookings. However, the passage of time has seen a dozen years pass, and the venture remains far from complete.
Members of the society claim that the even after repeated attempts to engage with the housing board, no resolution has been found. The society has even registered a formal complaint with the Chief Minister several months ago. The complaint was subsequently forwarded through official channels to the housing and urban development department before finally reaching the OSHB. However, this too has not yielded in any meaningful results.
The situation exemplifies the emotional and financial upheaval that can result from real estate projects failing to meet their stipulated deadlines. As the standoff between the homebuyers and the housing board continues, the homebuyers' association remains resolute in their quest for a resolution. The narrative underscores the criticality of timely execution in the real estate sector to avoid such unfortunate occurrences in the future.
