Poznan tops Poland’s city liveability ranking while Warsaw lags

On the contrary, Bialystok, Kielce, and Warsaw ranked the lowest due to high unemployment, poor wages, and subpar living conditions. The ranking considered factors like employment, wages, crime rates, housing, medical care, and air quality, offering insights into the cities’ overall desirability.

Poznan has been identified as the most favourable city to reside in within Poland, as per a recent assessment. Following closely are Katowice and Opole, whereas Bialystok, Kielce, and the capital, Warsaw, have emerged as the less desirable locations. The ranking, originating from Business Insider Polska, encompassed one city from each of the country’s 16 provinces. It gauged factors like unemployment, average income, crime rates, housing and medical accessibility, and air quality, using official data from May and June 2023. Cities garnered higher positions with fewer accumulated points in the assessment.



Poznan, the administrative centre of the Wielkopolska province situated in western Poland and housing a population exceeding 534,000 individuals, secured the lead with 28 points by achieving top 10 placements across all six categories.



Among all 16 cities, Poznan stood out with the lowest unemployment rate and secured the 4th spot in terms of wages, as well as the 5th position for housing accessibility. Business Insider highlighted that the city’s residents enjoy substantial earnings relative to housing costs. In the ranking, Poznan secured the third position in air quality, trailing Opole and Gorzów Wielkopolski.



Earlier in the year, Poznan also garnered recognition as an emerging culinary hub according to the Michelin food guide, with inspectors commending it is dynamic and rapidly expanding restaurant scene.



The city of Katowice, located in the southern Silesia province of Poland, secured the second-highest position for quality of living within the country, amassing 39 points. It excelled in housing accessibility, ranking first, and achieved the second position for its unemployment rate. However, it found itself at the bottom of the list in terms of crime rates compared to the other cities.



Opole, situated in the southern province of the same name, earned the distinction of being the third-best city to live in Poland, acquiring 42 points. It took the lead in air quality and ranked fourth in terms of crime rates.



At the other end of the spectrum, Bialystok, the capital of the north-eastern Podlaskie province, secured the lowest position in the overall ranking with 74 points. It landed In last place for both unemployment and average wages, and second-to-last for both housing accessibility and medical care. It only demonstrated favourable outcomes in relation to its crime rate, achieving the fifth position, and its air quality, securing the seventh spot.



Kielce, the administrative centre of the Witokrzyskie province in southern Poland, found itself in second-to-last place within the ranking, accruing 64 points. It obtained the second lowest score for unemployment and average wages, ranked 10th in terms of crime, and landed in the 12th position for air quality. However, Kielce showcased commendable performance in the aspect of medical care accessibility, securing the third position.



The capital of Poland, Warsaw, claimed the third lowest position within the assessment, amassing 60 points. While it demonstrated strong economic performance with high wages and minimal unemployment . It positioned last in terms of housing accessibility and air quality.
