Movie theatres have experienced a recent upsurge in foot traffic, attributed to the release of a series of well-received films. This increase, ranging from 10% to 15%, has had a direct impact on footfall and sales within malls housing these theatres. The correlation between movie releases and increased mall activity is evident as audiences not only watch films but also engage in shopping and dining experiences within the same complex. This trend has notably boosted sales in the Food and Beverage (F&B) as well as the clothing sections of these malls. Multiple retail outlets have reported heightened sales following prominent movie releases in the month of August.



While movie theatres may not be as packed as before, they are far from fading away. The pandemic led to temporary theatre closures, during which people grew accustomed to watching movies at home. As a response, theatres have adopted creative strategies such as offering improved seating, enhanced amenities, and special discounts to entice audiences back. The success of recent movie releases like "Rocky aur Rani ki prem kahani," "Gadar 2," "OMG 2," "Barbie," and "Oppenheimer" contributed to increased theatre attendance, subsequently driving food, beverage, and apparel sales within malls by 10% to 15%.



Movies such as "Pathan," "Kerala story," and "Mission Impossible" released from January to July have also played a role in reviving revenues for theatres and malls. A consistent observation across different cities is the rise in footfall at theatres, restaurants, and retail stores within malls, culminating in a 9% sales boost compared to the previous year. The trend indicates that people are spending more time within malls. Beyond watching movies, they engage in dining both before and after the movie and partake in shopping while exploring the stores. This trend has proven beneficial not only for theatres but also for retail outlets and food and beverage establishments.



Regular shoppers with shopping intentions are drawn in by the large crowds attending the cinemas, thus becoming an additional boon for retail shops. The time spent in the mall, before and after movie screenings, subsequently benefits other outlets in the complex. Food, grocery, jewellery, and sports stores have reported sales growth ranging from 11% to 15%.
