The road widening project connecting Chennai Trunk Road and Trichy Chennai NH in Srirangam is nearing completion within 20 days. To accommodate the four-lane highway, 30 houses were demolished, which were constructed on land belonging to the highways department. The department recognized the importance of the project to improve traffic flow and convenience for motorists in the area. The construction of a wall was implemented to minimize disruptions to nearby residents during the road widening process. The project is expected to be finished at a cost of Rs. 7 crores, delivering significant benefits to the local community.
The widening of the road connecting the Chennai Trunk Road and the Trichy Chennai NH in Srirangam is set to be completed within 20 days. This widening was deemed necessary as it serves as the primary entry and exit point for motorists in the area. However, the project faced a challenge as 83 houses were constructed on land belonging to the highways department, obstructing the expansion. As a result, 30 of these houses had to be demolished to facilitate the road widening process.
The state highway department recognized the importance of widening the road to offer motorists a more convenient four-lane highway to travel to and from Srirangam. To minimize disruptions to nearby residents, a wall will be constructed to block the construction area and ensure their comfort during the work.
Despite being asked to vacate the houses, the occupants failed to comply, leading to the need for their demolition. The work between Thiruvanaikoil and Kollidam Police check post has already been completed, while the project on the connecting road between the Trunk Road and NH is yet to commence. However, it is expected to be finished within the stipulated 20-day timeframe, with the road being widened up to 200m.
The cost of this widening project by the highway department amounts to Rs. 7 crores. The decision to demolish the 30 houses was a necessary step to achieve the broader objective of widening the connecting trunk road and national highway, ultimately benefiting the motorists and improving traffic flow in the area.
