Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu recently unveiled the development of a technologically advanced online system for scrutinizing building plans and granting construction permissions. The system, designed to augment efficiency and ensure accuracy, will feature real-time review of building drawings through automated scrutiny methods. This innovative system, Chief Minister Sukhu explained, is a joint venture with the Department of Digital Technology and Governance. Once completed, it will extend its services to all 61 urban local bodies (ULBs), 35 designated Special Area Development Authority, and 56 'planning areas within the state. The Chief Minister, presiding over a recent meeting with the Urban Development Department, reiterated the importance of digitizing essential services like property tax, bill payments, various permissions, and no objection certificates (NOCs). Sukhu believes that this digitization will significantly reduce bureaucratic corruption and streamline processes. One focal point of this initiative is to digitalize property tax calculations and collections across all ULBs, making the process more transparent and efficient. Addressing Shimla's current water supply issue, the Chief Minister proposed constructing a dam on the Giri River. He believes this measure will counter silting problems and improve water management. It's worth noting that Giri provides approximately one-third of Shimla's daily water supply, equating to around 15 million litres per day. The dam's design will be undertaken by the power corporation, with Sukhu directing its preparation and construction in the near future.
