In a recent development, town planning officials from the west zone took decisive action by sealing a building that had encroached upon open space reserve (OR) land for a staggering 25 years. The building, occupying a 12-cent OR land, had been leased to a private individual who had been utilizing it for commercial purposes.
Spearheaded by Assistant Town Planning Officer A Babu, a dedicated team carried out the sealing process, successfully reclaiming the land valued at a substantial 2.25 crore.
The authorities' efforts did not stop there. Another unauthorized structure felt the weight of their actions as they sealed a commercial building measuring 1,862 square feet situated at GP Signal in ward 48. This construction had been erected without the requisite approval from the town planning department, leading to its closure.
Providing insights into the series of events, an official from the town planning wing shed light on the circumstances surrounding the actions taken. According to the official, the owner of the sealed building had been engaging in construction activities with the aim of expanding their business operations. The town planning department had conscientiously issued three notices over a span of six months, urging the owner to halt the construction work. However, to their dismay, the owner remained unresponsive, completely disregarding the notices, and obstinately continuing with their unauthorized construction activities.
The officials were left with no choice but to execute the sealing process, ensuring that the encroached land was freed from unlawful occupation. By seizing the building, the town planning authorities not only put an end to the misuse of public land but also demonstrated their commitment to upholding regulations and maintaining the integrity of designated open spaces. The actions taken by the west zone town planning officials serve as a stern warning to individuals and entities who overlook the importance of adhering to proper procedures and approvals.
