In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is set to offer around 5,000 diverse category flats on a first-come, first-serve basis under its online housing scheme. The move, designed to make owning a flat more affordable and accessible, will also address demands for multiple home ownership for larger families. Depending on the demand, the DDA has plans to add more flats. The authority will also offer solutions for the residents of Signature View Apartments and intends to provide better living conditions for eligible slum-dwellers.
In a first, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is set to offer diverse category flats under its innovative phase-IV online first come, first serve housing scheme. MIG flats in Dwarka and Narela, HIG flats in Jasola, and LIG and EWS flats in Rohini, Narela, Siraspur, and Loknayak Puram are all on the table. This move, approved last week by the DDA's highest decision-making body, chaired by Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena, allows applicants to secure their preferred flat and location by paying a token booking amount.
This initiative aligns with the Prime Minister's vision of 'Housing for All,' making the process of owning a flat hassle-free and affordable for the public. Moreover, there's no requirement for applicants to own any existing property in Delhi, opening up possibilities for multiple homeownerships for larger families seeking to improve their urban living conditions.
Initially, the DDA plans to offer approximately 5,000 flats of different categories, promising to add more depending on demand. The cost of most EWS/LIG flats remains affordable, retained at the same level as the Special Housing Scheme of 2021. Others have been priced according to the offers from the fiscal year 2022-23.
The DDA is also stepping up its digital capabilities. Once the registration payment is confirmed, applicants will receive an online system-generated demand letter. In light of feedback from previous schemes, the DDA has invested heavily in the infrastructural upliftment of these localities, particularly their connectivity.
For the residents of Signature View Apartments at Mukherjee Nagar, the DDA offers two solutions - direct buyback of the flats or their reconstruction with improved amenities and services, in line with the Unified Building Bye Laws (UBBL). Rent compensation is also included for the construction period till the offer letter is issued.
The DDA, on the Lt Governor's directive, is also planning to allocate flats to eligible slum-dwellers in Kalkaii and Jailorwala Bagh. The goal is to provide a safer, more comfortable living environment to those currently housed in J clusters.
The DDA has constructed 1,675 EWS flats for allotment to eligible slum dwellers, with 1,093 families already allocated flats through a draw of lots. Plans are underway to relocate two additional nearby JJ clusters to the remaining 582 flats.
Moreover, under the in-situ slum rehabilitation project, the DDA is moving forward with the eligibility determination of 1,500 families of Navjeevan Camp, Govindpuri, Kalkaji, where it has built 3,024 EWS flats.
In conclusion, this new initiative by the DDA marks a significant shift in its approach to affordable housing, placing a clear focus on accessibility and improved living standards. By streamlining the application process and investing in infrastructure, it paves the way for more inclusive and equitable urban development in Delhi.
