In Maharashtra, persistent technical difficulties are stalling online tenant registrations, leaving more than 13,000 applications unprocessed. The software responsible, now nine years old, has been identified as the culprit, according to a high-ranking official from the state registration department.
The department has subsequently implored the National Informatics Centre (NIC) to upgrade the beleaguered software system within a span of two weeks, as the obsolescent system increasingly poses a challenge to its daily operations.
"The ongoing technical issues are a significant concern for numerous citizens. Unfortunately, they can't complete their registrations during standard working hours. We have requested an advanced version of the software to resolve these issues," stated HH Sonawane, the Inspector General of Registration and Stamps.
Sonawane added that lease agreement applications have been in a state of limbo for nearly a fortnight. Abhishek Deshmukh, DIG (IT), echoed these sentiments, noting that the department has extended all technical assistance to the NIC. However, he underscored that the prevailing technical issues would persist until an upgraded system is installed.
This stalemate has caused considerable frustration for the Association of Service Providers, whose president, Sachin Shingavi, mentioned that the system has been non-functional for the past two weeks. They have sought redress from registration department officials, advocating for an efficient backup system.
"The state IGR department is the prime contributor to the state exchequer," Shingavi said. "Our association insists on a reliable backup system to safeguard citizens from such technical glitches."
