The Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) has sealed five high-end residential buildings in Gurugram, citing flagrant violations of building regulations. The illegal activities were uncovered in notable colonies like Sushant Lok I, Greenwood City, and South City 1 following complaints lodged through the Chief Minister's window. In a resolute display of law enforcement, the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) has sealed five residential buildings in notable Gurugram colonies such as Sushant Lok I, Greenwood City, South city 1, and Orchid Island. These severe measures were necessitated due to the properties' flagrant disregard for the established building regulations.

The authorities were alerted to these infractions via seven complaints received through the Chief Minister's window. The DTCP subsequently confirmed the validity of these claims following an investigative mission by a specially commissioned team. The offending constructions, which were revealed to be unauthorized, were erected on plots spanning 60 square yards, intended for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), without the obligatory permissions from the appropriate authorities.

According to a DTCP spokesperson, several of these violations were quite severe. One of the residences in South city 1, for instance, boasted seven storeys, blatantly exceeding the permissible construction limits, and was even operating as paying guest accommodation. These deviations from the building norms occurred despite the acquisition of occupation certificates (OCs) by the offenders, thereby contravening the Haryana Building Code.

The DTCP responded swiftly to these findings. "When satisfactory replies weren't forthcoming from the property owners after issuing show-cause notices and restoration orders, the department's enforcement team executed a sealing operation last Thursday," the official stated. The enforcement of these measures reflects the commitment of the DTCP to curb such malpractices.

A week ago, a similar action was taken by DTCP against five other residential buildings in DLF 1 and 2, South City 2, and a maintenance office located in the parking area of an affordable housing project. The punitive response underscored the consequences of violating Section 3 of the Haryana Building Code, which clearly states that construction or reconstruction in a licensed colony necessitates mandatory permissions. Non-compliance can result in severe penalties, including imprisonment, fines, or both.

The residents lamented the additional stress these activities have imposed on local infrastructure and the resulting parking problems, besides the consequential revenue loss to the state exchequer.

In conclusion, the DTCP's decisive action against these unauthorized constructions in Gurugram illustrates the ongoing commitment to uphold building regulations. It underscores the necessity for residents and builders alike to seek and adhere to the required permissions, ensuring the sustainable development of the city. However, the need for more frequent inspections to prevent such violations from occurring remains a pertinent issue.
