The BBMP has encouraged defaulters to clear their dues by availing the One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme, which is set to expire at the end of this month. Failure to pay by the deadline will result in additional charges from December onwards. A significant focus in this zone has been on recovering dues from property tax defaulters. In an effort to ensure compliance, authorities attached 139 properties and sealed 1,412 establishments. Despite these efforts, the zone still has 33,571 defaulters who owe INR 98 crore in unpaid taxes.
Yelahanka zone has also shown strong results, achieving 85.4% of its target, with INR 380 crore collected out of a target of INR 445.2 crore. Over the course of the year, more than 212 properties were attached, and 54 non-residential properties were sealed. Munish Moudgil, a senior official responsible for overseeing revenue collection strategies across the zones, praised Yelahanka's proactive approach to revenue collection, noting that their targeted enforcement measures had delivered significant results.
The BBMP's latest report indicates that over 1.6 lakh defaulters across Bengaluru owe a total of INR 397.3 crore in property tax arrears. Enforcement actions across various zones have led to the attachment of 896 properties and the sealing of 6,069 establishments.
In response to the growing number of defaulters, BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath has directed officials to intensify enforcement actions. During a meeting with his team, Giri Nath instructed officials to lock and seal non-residential buildings with substantial property tax dues. He urged each zone's Assistant Revenue Officers to hold meetings focused on properties with high tax arrears and assessment cases, and to take stringent measures to recover these outstanding taxes.
Property tax defaulters are being encouraged to take advantage of the One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme, which offers a waiver on interest and penalties. This scheme, which is available within the BBMP limits, will only remain valid until the end of this month. All defaulters have been urged to pay their dues through the BBMP online portal by the 30th of this month to avoid facing additional penalties. After this deadline, defaulters will be required to pay more than double their dues, including interest and penalty charges, starting from the 1st of December.
