The Haryana government, under Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, is finalizing a scheme to provide 100 square yard plots to low-income individuals in rural areas, helping them build homes. Through the Mukhyamantri Gramin Awas Yojna, two lakh beneficiaries will soon receive plots, with 500,000 applications already submitted. Essential amenities like roads, electricity, water, and parks will accompany the plots. Financial aid for construction will be available via the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural). Additionally, 6,618 flats for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) will be allocated in the first phase of a related urban housing initiative. This scheme aims to uplift rural families by ensuring safe, dignified housing and improved living standards.
The Haryana government, led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, is currently finalising a blueprint for a new scheme aimed at providing 100 square yard plots to individuals from low-income groups to help them build their own homes. An official statement released earlier this week highlighted that the initiative would soon make the dream of owning a home a reality for two lakh people in Haryana.
The scheme will offer 100 square yard plots to eligible applicants who do not have their own land, with the plots being located in rural areas. Under the Mukhyamantri Gramin Awas Yojna, a total of 500,000 individuals have already applied for plots across the state. The distribution of plots will take place in phases, with two lakh individuals expected to benefit soon. J Ganesan, the Director General of the Department of Housing for All, has met with relevant officials to establish the necessary guidelines for the scheme.
According to the statement, Ganesan explained that the primary goal of the rural housing scheme is to provide land to low-income families who lack their own homes. He added that the successful execution of this initiative would significantly improve the living standards of these families, allowing them to live in dignity and safety within their own homes. During the meeting, Ganesan also emphasised the need to expedite the entire process so that eligible individuals could access the benefits without delay.
Earlier this month, Chief Minister Saini chaired a meeting with senior officials, including Development and Panchayat Minister Krishan Lal Panwar and Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goel. The chief minister directed that essential facilities such as paved roads, electricity, clean drinking water, streetlights, parks, and green spaces must be made available in the areas where the 100 square yard plots will be distributed.
The official statement further revealed that the government has also planned for financial assistance to help beneficiaries construct their homes on these plots, through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural). In addition, officials shared during the meeting that 6,618 flats, built by private developers for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), will soon be allocated to applicants registered under the Mukhyamantri Shehri Awas Yojana in eight districts, marking the first phase of the initiative.
