The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has released a preliminary notification to acquire approximately 143 properties, including 94 buildings, to facilitate the widening of a 2.4-km stretch of Gunjur-Varthur Main Road. All the properties earmarked for acquisition are located in Gunjur village.
Sources indicate that the civic body plans to expand the existing 30-meter road between Gunjur Lake and Vinayaka Theatre, which is part of State Highway 35. The identified properties also include 49 vacant plots of land.
The Gunjur-Varthur Main Road is one of 14 roads designated for development under the Revised Master Plan (RMP) for 2025, with BBMP aiming to enhance about 25 km of roads. A few months ago, the civic body began acquiring 25 properties to widen the road connecting the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to Yamaluru Kodi.
BBMP officials stated that the land acquisition will be compensated through transferable development rights. Once the acquisition process is finalized, the road-widening project will commence. This expansion is expected to alleviate traffic congestion in the area, particularly in Gunjur and Varthur.
The land acquisition notification, issued on November 19, advises landowners and interested parties to submit their claims along with relevant documentation, including property papers, tax receipts, and revenue documents, within one month of the notification's publication.
As the project unfolds, the focus on providing fair compensation for affected property owners will be crucial. Residents anticipate that the expanded roadway will enhance accessibility and overall traffic flow, reflecting the city's commitment to urban development and efficient transportation solutions.
