The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) is set to construct approximately 20,000 houses in the Mumbai, Konkan, and Pune regions over the next nine months, with nearly 12,000 units to be announced shortly. Recently, MHADA conducted a sale of 2,030 homes across various locations in Mumbai, receiving an impressive 134,350 applications. Of these, 113,811 applicants paid the necessary earnest money deposit, qualifying them for the lottery. The housing minister, Atul Save, mentioned that there are plans to sell homes in the Konkan region before the announcement of assembly elections.

On the sidelines of the lottery draw event, Sanjeev Jaiswal, vice-chairman and chief executive officer of MHADA, indicated that 12,000 houses are expected to be announced soon, many of which will be available under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). Initially, plans were in place to sell around 9,000 homes. Among the 12,000 units, approximately 3,000 are newly constructed, while over 4,000 are carried forward from previous lottery draws. Furthermore, 900 units are reserved under the 20% allocation for the Economically Weaker Section and Low-Income Group, with more than 1,500 homes available under PMAY.

After the assembly elections conclude, around 5,000 tenements are set to be offered for sale in the Pune region. Jaiswal also noted plans for an additional 3,000 houses within Greater Mumbai, anticipated for May 2025. In total, approximately 20,000 apartments will be made available. In just over a year, MHADA has conducted more than nine lottery draw events, offering around 30,000 tenements throughout Maharashtra.

MHADA's ongoing efforts to provide affordable housing reflect a commitment to addressing the growing demand in urban areas. With significant plans for future developments and continued lottery events, the initiative aims to enhance accessibility for various income groups, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive housing landscape in Maharashtra.
