The Madhya Pradesh government has initiated a statewide survey of kutcha (temporary) houses to identify new beneficiaries for its rural housing scheme, as stated by the rural development and agriculture minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The survey, to be completed within six months, aims to ensure that no intended beneficiary is left out of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) scheme, which provides pucca (all-weather) houses to those living in kutcha dwelling units.

Chouhan highlighted that the PMAY-G eligibility criteria have been relaxed, allowing those who own bikes or scooters to be included in the beneficiary list. Additionally, the income limit has been increased from INR 10,000 to INR 15,000 per month.

The minister also launched the Awas Sakhi mobile app for PMAY beneficiaries and inaugurated community-managed training centers, with around 100 such centers being established across 18 states.

Furthermore, the cabinet has approved an investment of INR 3.06 lakh crore to build 30 million houses nationwide over the next five years, with 20 million of these being constructed under the PMAY-G scheme. This is in addition to the 29.5 million houses targeted for completion under the scheme since its inception in 2016.

Chouhan also laid the foundation stone for 500 km of newly-paved roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and launched the Gram Sadak Survey & Planning tool.
