Goa government to review permits for DLF and Bhutani Infra projects

Synopsis

The Goa government recently announced a review of the permits granted for real estate projects by DLF and Bhutani Infra due to local protests. Town and Country Planning Minister Vishwajit Rane stated that his department would reassess permissions for DLF's villa project in Reis Magos and Bhutani Infra's project in Sancoale, with potential cancellation if rule violations are found. The Goa government recently announced that it would re-evaluate the permits issued for real estate projects by DLF and Bhutani Infra in the state, following protests from local residents. Town and Country Planning Minister Vishwajit Rane announced that his department would review the permits granted to DLF for a villa project in Reis Magos, North Goa, and to Bhutani Infra for a project in Sancoale, South Goa. He stated that if any violations of regulations are found, the permissions would be revoked.

Locals have been protesting the two projects, alleging significant hill cutting for their development. Earlier this week, local politicians visited the DLF project site and accused both companies of major violations of Town and Country Planning regulations. In response, Minister Rane has said that his department has not issued any permits for hill cutting in the past six months, and that the current construction activities are in compliance with previously granted permissions.

Rane mentioned that the current government is considering strengthening regulations on hill cutting and that he plans to discuss the matter with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant soon. He noted that while there have been many social media posts and videos alleging hill cutting, the first step is to verify whether any permissions were granted for such activities. He emphasised that if the activities are legally permitted, no action can be taken against them.

In conclusion, the Goa government is set to re-evaluate the permits for DLF and Bhutani Infra's projects following local protests about extensive hill cutting. Town and Country Planning Minister Vishwajit Rane emphasised that his department has not issued new hill-cutting permits in the past six months and that ongoing work adheres to previously granted permissions. Rane also plans to discuss potential legal enhancements regarding hill cutting with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. Verification of permit status will be crucial before any action is taken, as legally permitted activities cannot be contested.
