The Commissioner of Raipur Municipal Corporation and Managing Director of Raipur Smart City Limited, Abinash Mishra, has voiced significant dissatisfaction with the sluggish progress in constructing three essential Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) overseen by Raipur Smart City Limited. These projects include a 3 MLD STP at Maharajbandh Pond and two 1 MLD STPs at Naraiyya Pond and Kho-Kho Pond.

Thousands of people residing near these ponds depend on them for daily activities such as bathing, washing clothes, and other domestic needs. However, the accumulation of drainage water in these ponds has resulted in unhygienic conditions, with some individuals even consuming the contaminated water. Considering this, the Commissioner has directed the agency to accelerate the completion of the Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs).

The Commissioner has instructed the agency to finish the projects by the end of October, with trials planned for November. The Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) are anticipated to commence operations in December.

In a strongly worded statement during a review meeting, Mishra reprimanded the contracted agency, M/s Samriddhi Water Works, for the delays and instructed them to accelerate the construction work. He underscored the urgency of completing these STPs as a priority and warned the agency of strict actions in accordance with the rules if the work is not finished promptly.

The Commissioner also instructed all relevant officials and contractors to continuously oversee other critical development projects in the capital city, such as the 24x7 water supply project, Shastri Market, and Mutton Market. He emphasised the necessity of completing these projects within their scheduled timelines, while maintaining both quality and public convenience. The review meeting, held today, was attended by key officials including Smart City COO Ujjwal Porwal, General Manager Technical Pankaj Kumar Panchayati, Additional General Manager Technical Imran Khan, and others.

The Commissioner's stern stance on the delayed Sewage Treatment Plants underscores the urgent need for swift action and accountability in the ongoing development projects across Raipur. By setting clear deadlines and stressing the importance of adherence to quality and timelines, the Commissioner aims to address critical public health concerns and enhance the city's infrastructure. The close monitoring of other significant projects further reflects the administration's commitment to improving urban amenities and ensuring the well-being of its residents. The successful and timely completion of these initiatives will be crucial in fostering a healthier and more efficient environment for Raipur's growing population.
