In preparation for the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified its efforts to repair potholes and improve roads across the city. Spearheaded by NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde and Additional Commissioner and City Engineer Mr. Shirish Ardavad, the City Engineer's Department is working tirelessly to ensure that 95% of the city's main and internal roads are now pothole-free, with the remaining 5% expected to be completed shortly. Using a scientific approach, the team is addressing potholes with materials like cold mix, bitumen, and concrete, ensuring durability and preventing future damage. This initiative aims to provide safe and smooth roads for the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, with particular focus on the heavily trafficked Thane-Belapur road.
In anticipation of Lord Ganesha's arrival, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified efforts to repair potholes and improve roads throughout its jurisdiction, ensuring a smooth and safe celebration. The City Engineer's Department has undertaken these repairs on a war footing, especially focusing on addressing potholes that have appeared during the monsoon season.
Under the guidance of NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde and Additional Commissioner and City Engineer Mr. Shirish Ardavad, the engineers, along with the executive engineers, are closely monitoring the road improvement work. As a result, 95% of the main and internal roads across all city departments have already been made pothole-free, with the remaining 5% expected to be completed soon with round-the-clock efforts.
For the repair work, a scientific approach is being employed, where small potholes are filled using cold mix, while larger patches are repaired with bitumen or mastic material. For particularly large potholes, concrete mix or interlocking tiles are also being used. Special attention is being paid to ensure that the road surface is level with the filled material, preventing the recurrence of potholes. The City Engineer, Mr. Shirish Ardavad, has instructed that the repairs be carried out meticulously, ensuring durability and longevity.
The City Engineer's Department is working diligently to ensure the smooth conduct of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, following the Commissioner's directives. The Thane-Belapur road has already been fully repaired, and the remaining 5% of city roads are being swiftly addressed to ensure they are also pothole-free before the festivities begin.
