The Indore district administration recently demolished three houses to advance the MOG Lines Re-densification Project, aimed at enhancing infrastructure and living conditions in the area. Affected families have been relocated to new flats under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme at 'Girnar Parishar' in Bada Bangarda. Despite prior discussions, families protested during the eviction, necessitating intervention from senior officials and police. Indore Smart City Development Limited (ISCDL) is overseeing the relocation process and plans to generate income by selling large plots in MOG Lines, supporting ongoing and proposed projects while achieving self-reliance.
The Indore district administration recently took decisive action by demolishing three houses as part of the MOG Lines Re-densification Project. This project aims to enhance the area's infrastructure and living conditions while revitalising the neighbourhood. The families affected by this demolition have been provided with new accommodation through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme, specifically in the multistorey apartments known as 'Girnar Parishar', situated in Bada Bangarda.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nidhi Verma elaborated on the significance of the demolition, stating that it is a key component of a broader initiative to redevelop the MOG Lines area. She emphasised that the demolished houses were in a severely dilapidated condition and represented a safety hazard to residents. The district administration had proactively engaged with the affected families prior to the demolition, discussing the redevelopment plans and ensuring that alternative housing options were offered to them. This effort aimed to mitigate the distress caused by the eviction process.
Despite these efforts, the families expressed their dissatisfaction and protested during the eviction from the homes they had occupied for many years. The situation required the presence of senior administrative officials and representatives from the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), who were accompanied by police forces. Their intervention ultimately helped persuade the families to vacate the premises before the structures were demolished.
Verma further highlighted that the families have indeed been allocated new flats under the PMAY scheme, with financial arrangements made by Indore Smart City Development Limited (ISCDL) for these housing solutions.
ISCDL has ambitious plans to generate substantial income through the sale of large plots in the MOG Lines area. This strategic move is expected to fund the completion of ongoing projects while also facilitating the development of proposed projects. Furthermore, it aims to contribute to ISCDL's goal of achieving self-reliance in the near future. This multi-faceted approach underscores the administration's commitment to not only improve infrastructure but also to ensure the financial sustainability of its initiatives, ultimately benefiting the community as a whole.
