Mr. Manoj Saunik, the Principal Advisor to the Maharashtra Chief Minister and former Chief Secretary, assumed charge as the third Chairman of Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA), succeeding Mr. Ajoy Mehta. Before taking charge, Honourable Housing Minister Mr. Atul Save administered the oath of office. MahaRERA members, including Mr. Mahesh Pathak and Dr. Vasant Prabhu, welcomed Mr. Saunik at the headquarters in Bandra Kurla Complex. A 1987 batch IAS officer, Mr. Saunik has held key positions in the state and central government, including Additional Chief Secretary of Finance, District Collector of Nashik, and Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence.
Mr. Manoj Saunik, Principal Advisor to the Maharashtra Chief Minister and former Chief Secretary of the State, officially assumed charge last week as the third Chairman of the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA), succeeding the outgoing Chairman, Mr. Ajoy Mehta.
Before taking office, Honorable Housing Minister Mr. Atul Save administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mr. Saunik, after which he took charge at MahaRERA's headquarters in Bandra Kurla Complex. MahaRERA members Mr. Mahesh Pathak and Secretary Dr. Vasant Prabhu greeted him with a flower bouquet, in the presence of Director (Compliance) Mr. Ramesh Pawar, Director (Registration) Mr. Vinod Chithore, Deputy Director (Complaint Management) Mr. Sudhakar Deshmukh, and other officials.
To commemorate the retirement of the outgoing Chairman Mr. Ajoy Mehta, a special event was organised at the MahaRERA headquarters in Bandra-Kurla Complex where he was honoured with a shawl and ceremonial coconut by the incoming Chairman, Mr. Manoj Saunik. At the event, Mr. Saunik also released a compilation titled "RERA: A Perspective," which features 173 landmark decisions made by Mr. Mehta, along with an important foreword by him.
Speeches reflecting on Mr. Mehta's tenure as Chairman were delivered by MahaRERA members Mr. Mahesh Pathak, Secretary Dr. Vasant Prabhu, and Director (Compliance) Mr. Ramesh Pawar. In response, Mr. Mehta expressed his gratitude to the entire MahaRERA team for their active cooperation, which enabled him to work with dedication. The event was hosted by Director (Registration) Mr. Vinod Chithore, with a vote of thanks by Finance Department Head Mrs. Ashwini Bhosale.
Mr. Manoj Saunik's assumption as MahaRERA Chairman marks a new chapter in his distinguished career in public service. A 1987 batch IAS officer, has held various key positions including Additional Chief Secretary of Finance and Public Works Department, Principal Secretary of Transport, Ports, and Textiles, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence at the Centre, Private Secretary to the Union Minister of Power, District Collector of Nashik, and Chief Executive Officer of Pune and Alibaug Zilla Parishads.
As the state continues to navigate the dynamic real estate landscape, Mr. Saunik's vision and leadership are expected to build upon the strong foundation laid by his predecessor, Mr. Ajoy Mehta. The seamless transition underscores MahaRERA's ongoing commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and efficiency in Maharashtra's real estate sector, ensuring that it remains a vital regulatory body that upholds the interests of all stakeholders.
