HUDA is set to revise the Hubballi-Dharwad master plan, spurred by an increase in land from 23,000-24,000 hectares to 27,000-28,000 hectares under the Amrut Yojana. Following a recent e-GIS survey, the local population area expanded from 408 to 411 square kilometers. Stakeholder consultations have already been held to incorporate their suggestions into the updated draft. Plans include developing plots for low-income residents, building bus terminals, enhancing road and drainage infrastructure, and addressing illegal layouts. The revised draft will be finalized and submitted for government approval in the coming weeks.
The Hubballi-Dharwad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) has recently taken steps to update the existing plan.If everything proceeds as expected, the revised draft for the development of Hubballi-Dharwad is set to be presented to the state government for final approval within the next 15 to 20 days.
Sources indicate that numerous illegal layouts have emerged in the twin cities. Many roads and gutters have been encroached upon by residents. HUDA is now giving serious consideration to implementing the updated master plan to ensure that all taxpayers in the twin cities receive proper road infrastructure, drinking water connections, effective underground drainage, and other essential amenities.
Sources revealed that the land available with HUDA has increased from 23,000-24,000 hectares to 27,000-28,000 hectares following Hubballi-Dharwad's selection under the central government's Amrut Yojana.HUDA is now planning to make effective use of this additional land to develop the city according to a comprehensive plan. This includes creating adequate basic facilities and residential areas to meet the needs of the population.
The local population area (LPA) had initially been 408 square kilometers, but following the e-GIS survey, it expanded to 411 square kilometers. With the additional 4,000 hectares of land received under the Amrut Yojana, HUDA is now considering revising the existing master plan. This revision aims to adjust the conurbation boundaries and utilize the newly available land for residential plots, industrial zones, commercial spaces, and other infrastructure developments.Sanadi also indicated that the new city comprehensive development plan (CDP) will be implemented once the revised draft of the master plan is approved by the government in the near future.
Shakir Sanadi, President of HUDA, told reporters from ET Realty that HUDA had already conducted meetings with key stakeholders, including KIADB, HDMC, the housing board, the land record department, the minor irrigation department, local residents, and other relevant bodies. These meetings aimed to gather suggestions for creating a comprehensive draft to update the existing master plan. He noted that HUDA would strive to incorporate the ideas suggested by these stakeholders into the revised draft.
Additionally, Sanadi mentioned that meetings had been held with all party leaders and the district minister to discuss the plans for revising the master plan. Suggestions received included developing plots for low-income individuals on the available land, constructing bus terminals in various parts of the city, improving roads and drainage connections in the layouts, and addressing the proliferation of illegal layouts. Sanadi indicated that further meetings with other authorities would be held to finalize the draft within the next 15 days.
The upcoming revisions to the Hubballi-Dharwad master plan represent a significant step toward more effective urban development. With the additional land acquired through the Amrut Yojana, HUDA aims to address key infrastructure needs and accommodate population growth. By incorporating feedback from stakeholders and addressing critical issues such as illegal layouts and inadequate amenities, the revised plan promises to enhance living conditions and support sustainable growth. The final draft, expected to receive government approval soon, will set the stage for a more comprehensive and well-planned future for the twin cities.
